Moraga ADU

A 640 sq ft custom ADU in Moraga — designed by YCD Studio for a Lamorinda homeowner who wanted independent guest quarters with a real connection to the garden. Stucco walls, a cantilevered shed roof with exposed wood soffit, and clerestory glazing that pulls daylight deep into the open plan.

Overview

A 640 sq ft detached ADU on a wooded Lamorinda lot. Designed and permitted as a custom build — a stucco volume under a cantilevered shed roof with exposed wood soffit, opening wide to the garden through clerestory glazing.

Approach

The plan is organized as a single open volume — living, dining, and kitchen flow together at one end, with the bedroom and bath tucked privately at the other. Clerestory windows admit daylight from above; wide doors open the room to the patio.

Details

One material language, inside and out — light oak floors, white walls, and a wood soffit that runs from the interior straight out under the cantilevered shed roof. The roof line is what holds the whole composition together. Photography by Clay …
